Will of Joseph Wilson, first will, dated Oct 3, 1817

State of Georgia, Jasper County, October the third in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventeen, In the name of God amen.  I, Joseph Wilson of the State and County aforsaid being weak in body, but of sound mind and memory and now laboring under a disease which likely will bring me to the grave, have thought proper to make and ordain this my last will and testament.

 

First.  In case of death I wish my body intered in a decent christian like manner.

 

Secondly.  I recommend the speedy payment of all my just debts.

 

Thirdly.  I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sally Wilson a negro woman by the name of Cate.  But not her increase as her exclusieve right.  Also I give her the use of all my property both real and personnal of every description whatever during her life.  I say all except what is manifested to other legatees in this will and also in a Deed of Gift bearing equal date with this will from under the hand of Joseph Wilson and Sally Willson his wife this I bind to her for the benifet of herself and heirs and increase in general during her life and at her death all said property to be equally devided between all the children.

 

Fourthly.  That all my sons and daughters who is not had schooling that they all have a suitable portion of that, such as the neighboring country will afford and also that all as they arrive at eighteen years of age or marries shall have a good bed and furniture.

Fifthly,  I give to my son Jackson and my daughter Betsy five hundred dollars each or a negro of that value, according to the words of a Deed of Gift of the same date of this will, from me and my wife to that effect and purport, and if it should be paid in a negro the negro is to remain in the same situation as pointed out in the above mentioned Deed of Gift.

 

Sixthly – I wish this will to take cognzance of a Deed of Gift executed this day by me and my wife to our children and to operate uniformly with the same and if any of the property mentioned herein to any of the children should die before they receive it , my estate is to make such an one good and equal with the rest as respects the Deed of Gift.

Seventhly  I appoint my beloved wife Sally Willson, and  my two sons Abel Willson and Joseph Willson to manage my estate and execute this my last will and Testament, and so close. 

 

Given from under my hand and sealed this 3rd day October 1817.
