LIBERTY COUNTY RESERVE MILITIA LETTER: 1864
State of Georgia, Adjt. and Insp. General's Office
Major-General McLaws
General: At the urgent request of the citizens of Liberty County I have authorized and directed my aide-de-camp, Col. W.B. Gaulding, to organize a force from the reserve militia of Bryan, Liberty, and McIntosh Counties, to act in co-operation with and to obey your orders for the defense of the people and property of those three counties. Do you wish the co-operation of this force? And if called out at any time, will the Confederate government furnish it with subsistence, quartermaster's and ordinance stores? An early answer will oblige the Governor. It is understood that this organization is predicated on the idea that the men composing it are called out to defend their own counties. Very respectfully, your obedient servant, Henry C. Wayne
