JOHN WINN BIOGRAPHYJohn Winn, the second son and child of Peter and Mary (Farley) Winn, of Midway, Liberty County, Georgia, and grandson of John and Sarah Winn, of Midway, was born on December 4, 1779, and baptized on January 6, 1780. For a time after graduation he taught at Midway. He settled there as a lawyer, and held the rank of Major in the militia. He married, on May 7, 1806, Eliza, younger daughter of James and Elizabeth (Quarterman) Wilson, of Midway, who was eleven years his junior, and by whom he had five sons and two daughters. Three of the sons, who became Presbyterian clergymen, were graduated at College, -- one at Amherst College in 1834, one at Franklin College, in 1838, and one at the University of Georgia in 1841. The elder daughter married the Rev. Samuel J. Cassels (University of Ga. 1838). Major Winn died in August, 1820, in his 41st year.
