Clyattville - a small town - early residents were the Brays, The hunters, Lanes, Arnolds, Elswicks, Covingtons,
Quillians and the Clyatts. The first store in Clyattville was owned by the Bray family. There was once a
grist mill, a cotton gin, a drugstore and a Methodist Church.
Dasher - Settled byJames Wisenbaker (Weisenbacher) and Christian Herman Dasher, part of a Salzburger group that left Salzburg
Austria and arrived in Savannah in 1736. http://dasherga.com/history.php
Hahira - named for a local cotton plantation, population in 1900 ws 302.
Lake Park - a community towards the southern part of the county
Mineola - a small community
Naylor - a small community
Ousley - a small community
Remerton - founded in 1899 as a cotton mill town for Strickland Cotton Mill.
Valdosta - county seat founded in 1860, changed from Troupville. Land belonging to William Wisenbaker was chosen as the site
of the County seat. It is called the Azalea City. In 1910 Valdosta was ranked as the richest city in America per capita because
of cotton. The boll wevil invaded not long after that.
