THOMPSON posted by Rita Hand on Tuesday, August 11, 1998

Two Questions: 1. Does anyone know any facts surrounding the murder of William THOMPSON in 1842 and the subsequent arrest of his wife Franky Penn BERRYMAN THOMPSON for murder? We have seen a record stating that two slaves were found guilty and hanged for William's murder. But records also show that Franky was charged with a murder - also in 1842. We can only assume it was for the murder of husband William. Cannot find records on any trial of Franky or if the charges were dismissed, or what happened to her after about 1846. 2. Can anyone tell me if there was a newspaper during this time period and if copies can be accessed now - and if so, where?
