- COOK posted by Johnny
Cook on Thursday, December 9, 1999
- Hello, my name is Johnny Cook. I have been trying to find some information
on my gggg-grandfather, Robert R. or A. Cook. He is believed to have been born
around 1795 or 96 in Franklin County, Georgia. Everybody doing research on this
line of Cooks can't get beyond Robert. He had 2 wives. The first we don't know
anything about. The second was Anna Holder George. It has been suggested that
his first wife was a Landers, or Gray, or a Rooks. Children by his first wife
were: Elijah, George Washington (my ggg-grandfather), Martha, James H., Amanda,
and Annie Elizabeth. About the only information we have on Robert, other than
the above, is that he was in Jackson County, Georgia in 1829 when George Washington
Cook was born. He later shows up in Carroll County, Georgia where he married
his second wife, Anna Holder George, on March 4th, 1846. In 1850 he and Anna
are listed in the Carroll County census along with his children of his first
wife. The area of Franklin County, where it is believed that Robert was born
covered a larger area at the time of his birth than it does now, so it is possible
that information about Robert may be in one of the surrounding counties, including
Madison. Any help on information, or how I might obtain information, about Robert
Cook will highly be appreciated. Thanks for reading this. Johnny Cook.

- Looking for information on William Pinckney WILLIAMS b. unknown, d. unknown,
m. Jane "Jinsey" HOLBROOK 8/24/1815, Carnesville, Franklin Co, GA. She b. 6/16/1799,
d. 3/14/1878, bur. WILLIAMS/MUNROE Cem., Clay Co, AL. 1850 census of Madison
Co lists: Williams, William 56 yrs GA; Williams, Luzenia 16 yrs; and Williams,
Walton 12 yrs. These names and dates are consistent with other information I
have on the two children. They were the youngest of 9 children, and conceiveably
the oldest seven had already left home by the 1850 census. Walton Williams (my
g-grandfather) is buried in the same cemetery as Jinsey (my g-g- grandmother)
above. There is no record of William ever arriving in Alabama. Does anyone have
any information on his history or burial site? Also any information on the HOLBROOK
lineage would be appreciated. Thanks to Gene Harrison of Fayetteville, GA who
was the source of the 1850 census information. Harold Williams

- I'm researching the WILLEFORD/WILLAFORD/ WILLIFORD families of Georgia.
Specifically, I'm looking for descendants of Benjamin C. WILLIFORD and Charity
COBB, both b. bet. 1780-1790, prob. in NC. They were in Warren Co., GA, for
awhile prior to moving on to Pulaski, Monroe, and finally Crawford Co., GA.
They had 12 children, most of whose names are not yet known/verified. Known
to be children: George Washington WILLIFORD, Mary WILLIFORD, Susan WILLIFORD,
and Penelope WILLIFORD. Supspected: Thomas Hines WILLIFORD and Micajah WILLIFORD.
I found records for many WILLIFORD marriages in Madison Co. and am seeking any
researchers for these families.

- This may prove to be stupid question. But, one I am unable to find a reliable
answer to. So here goes. How did Madison County get its name? And how would
one establish just who the oldest remaining families with descendents still
residing in Madison County are?

- BARNES, HILL posted
by David Lineberger on Friday, January 7, 2000
- I am searching for information on John H. Barnes, allegedly born in Madison
County on or around 7 April 1842. He enlisted as a member of Co. A, 24th Georgia
Infantry AKA the Banks County Independant Volunteers on 4 August 1861. He fought
with the Army of Northern Virginia and surrendered at Appomattox, VA on 9 August
1865. He married A. (Anne?) Elizabeth Hill in Banks County on 10 June 1866 and
I believe that they had at least 5 children, the youngest of which was my great-grandmother
Arminda (Mendie) J. Barnes. John H. and Elizabeth are buried in the Mount Pleasant
Methodist Church Cemetery on SR 51, just north of Homer in Banks County. I am
almost positive that John H. and Elizabeth are Mendie's parents but this is
based on family heresay, secondary sources, and inspired detective work. What
I really need is that one piece of primary evidence to seal the deal. Can you
help?
