LOWERY, LURRY, PARKER posted by John Lowery on Sunday, December 20, 1998

Am seeking paretns, siblings, ancesters, etc on Thomas LOWERY born in GA in 1807. Little is known of Thomas prior to his arrival in San Augustine Co, TX. One of his sons stated on records that he was born in Pike Co, AL in 1833. There were two other sons, George born 1832 and Needham born 1835. Thomas and the three sons were in TX later 1835 early 1836. The family does not know whether Thomas started the trip with his wife, she died on the way, or died still in AL. There is a Thomas LURRY married a Sarah PARKER in Newton Co, GA on 1 Jan 1831. All of the books I have seen this marriage date, have "(sic)" after Thomas's name. This might mean, that they could not read it or that it was mispelled. The family has gone on the assumption that this might be Thomas's wife's name. Any help in solving this mystery will be greatly appreicated. Thanks and have a good holiday season to you and yours.

LEWIS, TYLER posted by Kathy Kirk on Thursday, December 24, 1998

Owen Tyler acquired land in Newton County through the Georgia lottery in the early 1820s. There were other Tylers present in Newton who seem to have arrived with him. These include my gg grandfather Enoch Tyler (Jon Noah Enoch Tyler). Most seem to have married in Jasper County, GA. Present at the same time were Samuel and Elana Lewis and their eleven children. Enoch married Comfort Lewis, daughter of Samuel and Elana, in Jasper Co., GA, in 1826. Who were these Tylers? Who were their parents? Were Owen and Enoch brothers and, if so, were there other sibs? There are at least three other Tyler men present in the same area at this same time. I suspect that they may have been the children of an earlier Owen Tyler and Priscilla Chestnutt of Sampson County, NC. Does anyone know? I have some information that suggests that the Lewis family may have originated in Edgefield Co., SC, but estate papers show that they owned property in Newton. Does anyone have any information on their background/ancestry? Enoch and Comfort started a family in Meriwether County, GA, and subsequently moved to Alabama with some of Comfort's family. Any help on taking these lines farther back would be be much appreciated. Kathy Kirk, Birmingham, AL
