Searching for any records of Joseph N. (M?) Nix and family. 1860 Census of Newton County, Covington Post Office shows Joseph, Carpenter, living with wife Sarah, and children William, Sarah, "J", Mary, Ella, "D", and Joseph. I suspect William may in fact be William Anderson Nix.

I am interested in Kilpatrick, Lyon, and Smith families who show up throughout the 1800's (censuses) in Newton County. Actually they were probably in what is now Rockdale County (Sheffield District, Hightower Rd area, property eventally bought by JB Rosser in early 1900's). Adam Kilpatrick shows up in 1850 census age 104, pauper, born in Ireland with wife Jane. His marriage to Jane Smith was recorded in Newton County in the 1820s. Maybe he was the father or grandfather of the other Kilpatrick families in the area. Thomas Kilpatrick married Martha Lyon in Newton Co. in the 1820s. They apparently moved to AL where they had children. Probably some of the older children stayed there but Martha moved back to Newton County with sons Newton and Francis Marion, and a daughter, presumably after Thomas died. Marion Kilpatrick married Winnie Smith, daughter of James and Rebecca Smith, in Newton County, and had a number of children. These children were eventually farmed out to relatives in the area (mainly Atlanta) probably after the parents died before 1870. How they died is unknown. Have been unable to find any graves for any of these families. Would like to have any further information or confirmation of the above.
