My grandparents Arthur Clifton and Nina Belle Belcher were living in Newton County in 1902 when my father was born. His name was James Clack Belcher . My parents divorced when I was three and he died when I was about nine. My mother has also passed and there is no one left to help. Any help would be appreciated. Susan (Belcher) Albrecht

BURTERY, BUTTREY posted by Freida J. Hamilton on Wednesday, August 8, 2001

The survey for the Covington Confederate Cemetery in Covington, Newton County came from a list extracted from an article in the Confederate Veteran written in 1898. It lists a W. J. BURTERY, Baxter ART. I think the correct name for this soldier is W. G. W. BUTTREY who was a member of Baxter's ART from Nashville, TN. His muster papers state he died in the hospital in Covington, GA. in 1864. I would like to know if the tombstones in the cemetery are still readable? Please reply to Freida at fredh@cox-internet.com

MALLORY, MARIA posted by diana gafford on Saturday, August 11, 2001

On June 20, 2001, an article appeared in the AJC on page F 1 titled: Tech Jobs: Computer Innovation, medical advances big boosters for vet techs. Author Maria Mallory. They mentioned laser declawing surgery for cats and I would like to know the name of the vet it mentions who is performing that surgery. I have a friend who is beside herself with her cats tearing up her furniture and I seem to recall an article regarding a more humane way to declaw. My search in the AJC "stacks" revealed this title and this may well be the article. Is there a name of a vet she could contact? Thank you. Diana

I have a picture of the Brick Store, but the plaque next to the door on the outside is unreadable. I am sure it is some kind of State Historical plaque. As I am in California, could someone give the words verbatim? Thank you.

LEE, PICKETT, ROLISON posted by jan rolison farren on Wednesday, August 22, 2001

I seek information on the Lee family of Newton, County, Georgia. Particularly, William Levi Eli Lee. He was born in North Carolina most likely the son of Eli Lee or Levi Lee. He married Josephine A. Pickett of Quincy, Florida 1877. His known children were Ida Mae Tillery (Tilley?) Lee and Robert Berry Lee. The family later showed up in Bainbridge, Georgia. Ida Mae Tillery Lee married George E. Rolison of Eufaula, Alabama. Josephine Pickett Lee is reportedly buried in Phenix City, Alabama.
