VITAL RECORDS
Here is where you will find information on births, marriages, divorces, deaths and Social Security records for Newton County. If you have any records to share, please contact me.
Vital records of births and deaths are kept by government offices. Statewide registration of births and deaths began January 1, 1919 in Georgia. Sometimes cities and counties kept birth and death records before the state began a record keeping system. The cost is $25 for a certified copy of a birth or death certificate, $10 for marriage verification. Additional copies of same record ordered at same time are $5.00 each. For a copy of a birth or death certificate or marriage verification, go to:
For earlier records in Atlanta or Savannah or other cities or counties, write to the Vital Records Office in county where event occurred.
Newton County has marriage records that begin in 1822. To obtain a copy, contact the Courthouse in Covington.
