President Franklin Pierce
Pierce County, Georgia was established 18 Dec 1857. It was named for President Franklin Pierce who was President of the US from 1853-1857.
The county was formed from Appling and Ware Counties. Pierce County has about 343 square miles, of which about 27 square miles are water.
The county seat is Blackshear, named from General David Blackshear who fought in the American revolution when young, and fought the Indians in Georgia and Florida during the war of 1812. He also ordered the military road built in 1814 with bridges and forts.
