Blackshear
county seat, founded in 1858. Named in honor of General David Blackshear who was a patriot in the American Revolution and served as a
general in the War of 1812. During the Civil War the City of Blackshear became a temporary prisoner of War camp for more than 5,000 Union prisoners.

Does not exist today. Before 1926 it was the second largest town in Pierce County. It has a sawmill and more than 300 workers who processed lumber every day.
There were stores and homes. In 1926 the saw mill closed and the town dired up.
