My Great-grandfather, John Y. HICKS died in Randolph County in 1863. His wife, Mary Ann WOLSTENHOLME sold the estate to George POWELL. The Estate consisted of Lot #16 in the 11th District, fraction lot #19 in the 4th District and all that part of Nos. 1 and 32 in the 10th District lying on the west side of Little Itchaway Notchaway Creek and excepting two acres on which stands Rehoboth Church - 2 acres on which lately stood the Mesonic Hall - the whole in Randolph County consisting of 479 acres more or less. The deed may have been recorded as late as July 1864.
John Y. HICKS died Aug. ll, 1863. His son George, died Dec. 4th (or possibly 10th) 1863. He was in Company B, 11th Battalion Georgia Infantry. Another son, Oliver HICKS, died Aug 5, 1864 followed by the death of John's daughter, Harriet Battle HICKS Aug. 27, 1864. These four deaths occurred in the space of 1 year, and 16 days. It is likely that their buriel was not far from their residence, possibly even on their estate. Could any one shed any light on this family and these events?
