    Mr. T. S. Goode dead

Shellman loses one of its oldest and best citizens

    Shellman June 22nd (1896)

Sunday morning at 5:00 Mr. T. S. Goode, one of the oldest settlers of this section, passed quietly away. Although living to a ripe old age his life has always been characterized as one of the goodness, benevolence and unbounded love for his fellow man. His well-rounded character was such as to challenge the admiration of any man, and his influence will be felt for many years to come. His remains were laid to rest in the Reheboth cemetery with very impressive ceremonies by his brother masons.

    DAVIS / HUGHES (06/22/03)
My ggggrandmother was Mary Cambell CARR DAVIS. As a widow she was a successful drawer of land in Lee (later Randolph) County in the 1827 Land Lottery. Her daughter Priscilla DAVIS HUGHES, married my gggrandfather, William A. HUGHES in Randolph County in 1834. Priscilla was the sister of Benjamin DAVIS (I understand he was a wealthy and prominent citizen of Randolph) whose children are reputed to have raised a monument to Mary Cambell CARR DAVIS. Does anyone know where that monument is/was located? Is it still standing?

    DAVIS / HUGHES (06/29/03)
A response to my earlier query says that Mary Campbell Carr DAVIS is buried in a burying ground marked by a large obelisk near the former estate of Benjamin DAVIS. I understand that estate may still be in the DAVIS family. Does anyone know directions to that Estate? Does anyone know how to contact the present owners?
