Gracewood (actual town--Old Tobacco Rd area) One of the earliest settlements - probably predating Augusta, but not Ft. Moore which was on the Carolina side of the river at the sand bar.  In a diary written by Rev. John Newton, Presbyterian Missionary about 1750, he mentions crossing the river at the rapids and going for three days
through a vast pine forest seeing no-one.  He then returned and spent the sabbath with the inhabitants of Gracewood.

Hephzibah, - A village in Richmond County named after the Baptist High School located there and the Hepzibah Baptist Association which established the school.  The word signifies "My delight is in her".  Prior to 1870 the community was called "Brothersville"  see above.
