ROBERT DIXON - WILL - AUGUSTA, GA (Richmond Cty)
In the name of God Amen. This is the last will and
testament of Mr. Robert Dixon of the town
of Augusta County and State aforesaid as follows:
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Ann Dixon the
house and lot whereon. I now liv
in the Town of Augusta and all my household furniture
and -----of what nature and it and ----,
also, the following negroes, that is to say Dick, Harry,
Nero, Juno, Kate, Phillis, Aaron and Sam
to possess unmolested the house, Lot, Household furniture
and negroes aforesaid during her
natural life, or so long as she may remain unmarried,
and at the decease of my wife or when we
shall again marry, It is my will that the house and lot
should be vested and become the right and
property of my 3 oldest sons: John Lyddall Dixon,
Henry Dixon and Tilman Dixon, to hold the
said lot of land and the appurtenances unto them the
said John Lyddall, Henry and Tilman and
to their heirs and assigns forever, share and share alike,
and further that on the death of my
wife her inter marriage, it is my will that the negroes
herein before mentioned, that is to say:
Dick, Prill, Harry, Nero, June, Kate, Phillis, Aaron
and Sam, and their future increase shall
be equally divided among my several children following.
That is to say, John Lyddall Dixon,
Henry Dixon, Tilman Dixon, Sarah Parks Dixion, Ann Dixon,
Caroline McDonald Dixon and
Maria Felisha Dixon, and the survivors of them, after
they shall come to lawful age or marry.
Whereas in virtue of my marriage with my wife, Ann Dixon,
I shall be entitled to have and
receive of and from the estate of Lyddall Bacon, father
to my wife, on the death of Mary Bacon,
my wife’s mother, a certain legacy mentioned in the last
will and testament of the said Lyddall
Bacon. It is therefore my will and desire, that
the legacy to be vested on the death of Mary
Bacon shall become property of my wife Ann Dixon during
her natural life or widowhood, and
at her death or intermarriage to be equally divided among
my 7 children aforementioned share
and share alike.
Item - I give and devise unto my 3 sons, John Lyddall
Dixon, Henry Dixon and Tilman Dixon all
my real estate, Lands and tenaments of what nature or
kind so ever to have and to hold the same
in equal division to them and ---- of them
their heirs and assigns forever subject however to this
provisio, that my wife Ann Dixon during her natural life,
or until her marriage shall and may at all
times cultivate any of my Lands now --- proved with the
negroes by this will bequeathed to her
so as not to interfere with any plantation or plantations
which sons may have settled or built upon.
And it is my further will and desire that my son John
Lyddall Dixon at the time of the division
of my real estate shall in his division have included
that part of the tract of land on Buffalo Waters
in the County of Washington whereon he hath made investments.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John Lyddall
Dixon one Negro ---- to him and his heirs forever
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Dixon
one negro --- slave Jenny and her future increase
to him and his heirs forever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son Tilman Dixon one
negro boy slave Currell to him and his
heirs forever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Sarah Parks
Dixon, one negro girl slave Lucy and her
increase to her and her heirs forever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Ann Dixon,
one negro boy William, the child of Phillis,
to her and her heirs forever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Caroline
McDonald Dixon, one negro boy Sandy, the
child of Phillis to her and her heirs forever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Maria Feliscina
Dixon, one negro boy Dick, the child of
Phillis to her and her heirs forever
Item - It is my further will and desire that if any negro
devised to either of the female legatees now
under age should die before such female legatee should
come to lawful age or marry, that then the
male legatees shall contribute equally to raise for such
unfortunate legatee a negro of equal caliber.
Item - I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my
wife, Ann Dixon, John Lyddall Dixon, Henry
Dixon and Tilman Dixon executors of this my last will
and testament, thereby revoking and making
void all other wills and testaments by me heretofore
made.

this 26th day of October 1792.
