Georgia | In the name of God Amen.
Stewart County | I Dougald McKeithan of said State and County being of
advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart from this world deem it right
& proper both as respects myself & children that I should make a distribution of
the property with which a kind providince had blessed me. I therefore make this
my last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all others heretofore
made by me.
Item first. I desire & direct that my body be buried in a decent & Christian like
manner suitable to my circumstances and condition. My soul I trust shall return to
rest with God who gave it as I hope for etermal salvation through the blessed Lord
& Savior Jesus Christ whose religion I have professed & as I humbly trust enjoyed.
Item Second. I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by my
Executor hereinafter named.
Item Third. As it is my will & adament desire that my negroes be kept together I
give & bequeath them to my daughter Mary Brown, wife of Addison B. Brown & her
children by her present or future husband free from the disposition of her present
or future husband my negroes to wit - Jimy? a man, Sally a woman, & his four children
Henry a boy, Dumis a boy, Anthony a boy, & Amanda a girl upon the following terms.
At my death the above named negroes to be appraised and the appraised value to be
divided into four equal shares and my daughter Mary Brown to have one share and
two hundred dollars from each of the other three shares then the balance of the
appraised value of the negroes to be paid out as hereinafter directed.
Item Fourth. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Dowd wife of Joseph I(A?)
Dowd & her children by her present or any future husband free from the disposition
of her present or any future husband one fourth of the appraised value of my
negroes after paying my daughter Mary two hundred dollars.
Item Fifth. I give & bequeath to my daughter Sandy (Lundy?) Webb wife of William
Webb & her children by her present or future husband free from the disposition of
her present or future husband one fourth of the appraised value of my negroes after
paying my daughter Mary two hundred dollars.
Item Sixth. I give & bequeath to the orphan children of my departed son Neil one
fourth of the appraised value of my negroes after paying my daughter Mary Brown
two hundred dollars.
Item Seventh. The rest of my property both real & personal wherever & whatever it
may be I desire & direct that it may be sold & if there is anything left after
paying my just debts I want it equally divided among my three daughters & the
orphan children of my son Neil and I appoint Addison B. Brown trustee for the many
money herein bequeathed to my daughters Sarah Dowd, Lundy Webb & Mary Brown & their
children & likewise for the orphan children of my son Neil.
Item Eighth. I constitute & appoint Addison B. Brown Executor to this my last will &
testament this 18th day of February 1847.
