1864 Georgia Militia Re-organization Census
1864 census for the re-organization of the Georgia Militia. This was a statewide census of all free white males between the age of 16 and 60 who were not serving in Confederate or State service required under the Act of the Georgia General Assembly for re-organizing the Georgia Militia passed December 14, 1863.
The information given is: name, age in years and months if given, occupation, where the person was born, if they are exempted - why, what kind and condition of gun, cavalry - horse etc., and remarks if any. I will note only the information given. The source of this information is Georgia Archives Virtual Vault where the Archives have scanned the original documents. Some of the pages (Militia Districts 1233, 627 and 629) are very faded and not readable by me. There is a book called "1864 Census for Re-organizing Georgia Militia", published in 2000, compiled from typewritten cards done in the 1930's. The Militia Districts that are missing due to faded originals are in her book. That book is by Nancy Cornell.
I do not know the age of this militia district map for Whitfield Co GA.
