J J Groves, Company I, 4th Regt Cavalry, enlisted Sept 7, 1862, Dalton GA with Capt Avery.

Absent without leave Nov and Dec 1863.

Muster roll present Nov 14, 1864, last paid July 1863 by Capt Moore.

 

Application of Mrs Minerva C Groves, 29 Oct 1910, Whitfield County, GA.  Has been a permanent resident of Georgia since 1870.  Married to James J Groves 21 Mar 1869 in Murray County.  He enlisted sometime in 1862, Company E, 4th GA Cavalry Regt.  I understood that he was on furlough a few days before surrender because he was sick.  Surrender came before he got home.  Husband died Feb 17, 1902, Dalton GA.  Own a house and lot worth $800 in Dalton, one cow $18.00, household and kitchen furniture worth $250.

Mrs Minerva Carolina Groves, widow, on pension roll for Whitfield County GA, died 19 May 1931, Whitfield County.

Funeral expenses from Carter Funeral Homes of Dalton Georgia: Casket $250; embalming $25; dress $30; hearse $10; underwear and hose $3.17; flowers $20, burial permit: $6.  Total $344.17.  Sworn to by Chas L Carter, President of Carter Funeral Homes.
