Indigent pension application 1900

Joshua Roach, Crow Post Office, Whitfield County GA,

Lived in Georgia 62 years, since 1838.

Born June 2, 1838, Anderson SC

Enlisted Sept 10, 1861 at Huntsville AL, Company I, 19th AL.  I joined that command on account of having an uncle in it.

Remained until the final surrender at Salisbury NC, April 1865

Discharged regular military duty for 8 years and 7 months.

I was with my command with the surrender which as to my -- was Salisbury NC, April 26, 1865, under Gen Joseph E Johnson.

Present occupation: trying to farm.

Application based on age and poverty, for about 1 year. 

I have no property

I have lived in Whitfield County between the years 1894-1899

Getting by with the help of my children and doing what I could.

I can't say what my support cost, I could do but little.

I tried to farm, got no wages.

Have a wife and six children. Their own labor is their only means of support.  My wife owns a small piece of land worth about 80 dollars.

Not receiving any pension.
