SYLVESTER Dorothy Reid, 79, of 401 Reed St. Apt. 105, Philadelphia, PA,
died Friday, September 29, 2006, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
in Philadelphia. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Brown Chapel
CME Church in Sylvester with interment in Shepard Memorial Garden in
Sylvester. The Rev. Ida Freeman will officiate. Born June 21, 1927, in
St. Petersburg (Pinellas County), FL, Mrs. Reid was educated in the
Worth County Public School System. She was a graduate of Oakie Hill High
School, Sylvester and attended Fort Valley State College (University).
She was a dietary supervisor at Albert Einstein Medical Center for 38
years. She was a member of Brown Chapel CME Church in Sylvester, early
in life. Later in life, she was a member of Mt. Moriah Temple Baptist
Church in Philadelphia, PA, where she served as a member of the choir.
Survivors include three sons, daughter, sister, 13 grandchildren, and 16
great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Julia P. Roberts
Mrs. Julia P. Roberts, wife of Mr. J.A. Roberts, died at the family home
in Sylvester Friday following an extended illness. She was a native of
Randolph County and was 56 years of age. Besides her husband she is
survived by a son, Mr. H.H. Roberts of Virginia, one sister, Mrs.
Giddens of Albany and several brothers. The funeral was held at the
Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev.
Burford and Rev. Baskin. Immediately after the funeral service the body
was carried to Terrell County and buried in New Bethel Cemetery near
Dawson. The Spurlin Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. The
pallbearers were Messrs Luther Conoly, Opal Wingate, Cecil Jennings,

SYLVESTER Conrad Savage, 67, of 604-A Wallace St., Sylvester, died
Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Hope Cemetery in Crisp
County. Pastor Steve H. Tate will officiate. A native of Brooklyn, NY,
Mr. Savage has lived in Worth County since 1991, moving here from
Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Fla. He was an aero space engineer. Mr. Savage
was a Navy and Air Force veteran having served in Viet Nam. He was a
member of Sanctuary of Praise Church.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, daughter, his mother, a stepson,
two stepdaughters, two sisters, and 12 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorials to Sanctuary
Praise Church, 3245 Highway 82 West, Sylvester, GA 31791, to further the
work of the Lord. The family will receive friends today from 7 p.m.- 9
p.m. at the funeral home.

SYLVESTER Ida Abell Shiver, 102, of Sylvester died Tuesday, October 24,
2006, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.
today at Bethel Baptist Church with interment in Bethel Cemetery. The
Rev. Grady Morey and The Rev. Hilton H. Gillespie will officiate. Born
June 13, 1904, in Worth County, to Henry and Polly Davis Spring, Mrs.
Shiver had lived in Worth County all of her life. She was a homemaker
who loved flowers, cooking and sewing. She was a member of Bethel
Baptist Church, the W.M.U. and the Senior Sunday School Class. Mr.
Shiver was preceded in death by her husband, Bartow Shiver, on March 16,
1975. Survivors include two daughters, five grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Robert Stewart
SUMNER - Charles Robert Stewart, 84, of Sumner, died Saturday, April 28,
2007, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday at Terrell
Baptist Church. Elder Henri Daniel, the Rev. Jerry Cooper and the Rev.
Mike McPherson officiated. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Stewart was born on April 25, 1923, in Worth County. He was the son
of Alexander Cleveland Stewart Sr. and Margaret Balkcom Stewart, both
deceased. He was also preceded in death by brothers Alex C. Stewart Jr.,
Harry Stewart and James Valton Stewart, and one sister, Margaret
Lumpkin. He was a member and deacon of Terrell Baptist Church and a
veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Latrelle Young Stewart of Sumner; a son,
Charles (Bess Kendrick) Stewart of Oxford; two daughters, Sharon
(Ronald) Chapman of Sylvester and Jeannine (Brad) Senkbeil of Sumner;
eight grandchildren, Brad (Martha) Stewart, Keith (Tracy) Chapman, Todd
(Becky) Stewart, Matt Senkbeil, Andy (Jenifer) Stewart, Seth Senkbeil,
Ben Senkbeil and Kelly (Justin) Cooper; seven great-grandchildren,
Merynda, MacKenzie, Mallory, Bradley and Brittany Stewart and Matthew
and Caitlyn Chapman; and a sister-in-law, Dot Jenkins Stewart.

SYLVESTER Doris Watson Stripling, 76, of Anderson City, GA, died
Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Banks Funeral Home
Chapel, with burial to follow in Kimball Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Gordon
officiating. Born on January 19, 1930, Mrs. Stripling was the daughter
of John Ancil Watson and Arie DeBerry Watson. She was the widow of
Forest Hoyt Stripling, who preceded in death on September 3, 1997. She
was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church and attended
Antioch Baptist Church. She has lived in Worth County all of her life.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, son and daughter-in-law, a
sister, a brother, and sister-in-law, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs.
Stripling was preceded in death by a brother, John Harrison Watson. The

William Whiddon
William Howell Whiddon, 91, of Winder, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at
his residence.
Born in Worth County, he was the son of the late Elzie and Lola Reynolds
Whiddon. He was an alumnus of Berry College and was the retired owner of
Whiddon Motor Company. He was a former Greensboro resident and had
resided in Winder since 1944. He was a member of the Winder First United
Methodist Church, where he had served as a past president of the
Methodist Men’s Club, President of the Baracca Sunday School class and
secretary of the building fund of the First United Methodist Church. He
had served as a registrar for Barrow County and was past vice-president
of the Winder Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Katherine Moore Whiddon, Winder;
three sons, Robert Whiddon and Gary Whiddon, both of Winder, and Frank
Whiddon, Hoschton; sister, Edna Earl Stephens, Jeffersonville;
grandchildren, Mark Whiddon, Kevin Whiddon, Lane Whiddon Childers, Wayne
Whiddon, Ashley Whiddon, Coleman Simmons, David Whiddon, Cory Pelzer and
Scott Brooks; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Whiddon, Victoria Whiddon,
Kimberly Childers, Emily Whiddon
and Mathew Whiddon.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 25, in the chapel of Carter
Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Terry Tippens officiating. Burial
was in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder. Pallbearers were Robbie Pearson,
Landy White, Jason Carey, Brian Maddox, Keith Hardy and Larry Reynolds,
Jr.

Sunday School Class. She was the widow of Parks Edward Williams Jr.

nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claudie Ellen

Ruth Story Willis
ALBANY — Ruth Story Willis 96, of 1904 Palmyra Rd. in Albany died
Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
A native of Ashburn, GA, Ms. Willis lived in Sylvester, GA, where she
was a bookkeeper for a number of years working for Foy Equipment Company
and as a
clerk for the City of Sylvester. She then worked for Leonard Gilberg
Fabric Store in Albany as a bookkeeper, and then served as a nurse’s
aide for several years for the Sutton, Hill and Whitfield families. Ms.
Willis has lived the past 30 years in Columbus, GA, where she was a
member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church, until recently when she moved to
Albany to be closer to her daughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Fay Willis Gafford of Albany; grandson,
Paul Perrmann of Albany; great-grandchildren, Matthew Benjamin Register
of Ashville,
NC, and Justin Davis Lamb of Albany,GA; and sister, Miranda Story Jones
of Columbus, GA.

will officiate. Born May 14, 1920, in Worth County, Mrs. Womack was
educated in the Worth County Public School System. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church early in life; later in
life, was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she served as
secretary of the usher board, secretary of the mission department,
president of the pastor's aide board, president of the mission building
committee, president of the Mt. Olive Baptist Association, and assistant
church mother. In 2005, she moved her membership to Sylvester New
Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as mother of the
church. Survivors include seven daughters, one son, two sisters, 35
grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

SYLVESTER — Ermon W. Young, 99, of 104 Monk Street, Sylvester, died
Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Sylvester Health Care.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with
interment in Pine Forest Cemetery. The Rev. Gordon Poole Jr. will
officiate.
Born February 1, 1905, in Worth County, to Primus and Delilah Willis
Young, Mr. Young had lived in Worth County most of his life. He was a
retired farmer who also was a guard at the Worth County Work Camp a
number of years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Eloise Y. Bozeman of Sylvester; son, Max
Young of Moultrie; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six
great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Omie
Jewell Paulk Young and a granddaughter, Delaine McDowell.
