Isaac Comfort Chandler and Sarah Martha Thomas Chandler

Isaac Comfort Chandler, son of Isaac Chandler and Elizabeth Kilborn Byram, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on 04 May 1823 and died in Geneva,
Georgia on 03 Jul 1896. He came south to Georgia in 1842 and after several years came to Columbus, Georgia. On 16 Oct 1850 Isaac married Sarah
Martha Thomas, daughter of Judge Grigsby Eskridge Thomas and his wife Mary Ann Shivers of Columbus. Sarah Thomas Chandler was born in
Warren County, Georgia on 02 Oct 1826 and died in Geneva, Georgia on 21 Apr 1895.
They set up housekeeping in Columbus but soon acquired property in Juniper Mills, Georgia a small community thirty-six miles from Columbus,
Georgia. Isaac C. Chandler built a grist mill, a lumber mill and a fine home overlooking the mill pond. His mill was one of the first to grind corn for
the Ellebeck Corn Meal Company.
Isaac and Sarah Chandler had a houseful of children. They are listed as follows:
George Thomas Chandler, (Presbyterian Minister) b.20 Jul 1851 in Columbus. D. 07 Aug 1929 in Romney, W. Virginia married 16 Nov 1887 in Ellerslie, Harris County, Georgia, to Sidney Glaze McKee, daughter of George Henderson McKee and Jane Elizabeth Williamson. Sidney McKee Chandler was born in Ellerslie on 13 Aug 1866 and died 22 Oct 1955 in Athens, Georgia. Children: Eugenia, Burrett, Isabelle, George, Marion, Grigsby and Stephen.
Frank Byram Chandler, b.20 Mar 1853 in Columbus, Georgia. d. 10 Sep 1943 in Cobb County, Georgia. married about 1909 to Maude Estelle Paschall b.15 Feb 1871 in Geneva, Georgia d. 18 Apr 1930 in Cobb County, Georgia. Daughter of Robert and Mary Reed Paschall. No children.
Mary Eugenia Chandler, b. 21 Oct 1856 in Juniper Mills, Georgia d. 09 Jun 1888 in Columbus, Georgia. married Robert W. Williamson, son of Henry and Sarah Collier Williamson, b.1851 in Talbot Co. Ga. Children: Chandler, Nettie Lou, George Robert
Sarah Louise Chandler, b.11 Jan 1858 in Juniper Mills, Ga. d. 08 Apr 1905 in Juniper Mills. Married 01 Jun 1882 to John Adams Sibley, son of Josiah and Emma Longstreet. b. 01 Sep 1861 in Augusta, Ga. d.26 Mar 1934 Valdosta, Ga. children: James, Eugene, Frank
Grigsby Eskridge Chandler (Presbyterian Minister) b.16 Sep 1860 in Juniper Mills, Ga. d. 01 Mar 1899. Married on 05 Mar 1885 to Fredonia Moye Counts, daughter of Thomas and Jane Moye Counts. Fredonia Chandler was born in Bamberg, SC on 17 Sep 1863 and died there on 26 Oct 1886. Children: Grigsby C. Grigsby married 2nd to Mary Coleman, daughter of Thomas Wilkes and Frances Wilson Coleman. Mary Coleman Chandler b.13 Jun 1867 in Eutaw, Ala. D. 12 Mar 1965 Rome, Ga. children: Wilkes, Frances, Mary
Annie Cornelia Chandler, b. 24 May 1864 in Juniper Mills, Ga. d. 09 May 1947 in Milledgeville, Ga. Not Married
Isaac Shivers Chandler, b. 12 Sep 1865 in Juniper Mills, Ga. d. 03 Oct 1900 married Marion Doty, daughter of Duncan and Jane Doty. Marion Doty Chandler was born in 1863: No Children

This house was the home of Isaac Comfort Chandler and his wife
Sarah Martha Thomas from 1854 until 1895. Five of their seven children and
several grandchildren were born here. The property was put up for sale in
December of 1895. Juniper Mills was located on the county line between Marion
County and Talbot County, Georgia. The description of the property was as
follows in a Columbus, Georgia paper: "It is known as Juniper Mills, located
about eight miles from Geneva, Georgia, consisting of a first class water power
sufficient for factory purposes, the Best
Grist Mill in the County containing three sets of stones, also a large wooden
building with power constructed for running machinery. A residence of eight
large rooms, and necessary out buildings, stables etc... About fifty acres are
attached with a mill pond. Dated 04 Dec 1895 Isaac Comfort Chandler. By
the time of his death, the home had not sold. (Rev. George Thomas
Thomas assumed ownership and used it as a home base when he went on the
preaching circuit., about 1903 Sarah Chandler Sibley and family was living in
the homeplace and stayed there until her death in 1905. Sometime between 1905
and 1915 the Poseys aquired the property.)
In the photograph on the front porch is William Howell Posey Jr., son of Eugenia
Chandler Posey, grand daughter of Isaac C. Chandler.
