Binion H Jossey, was born in Marion County, Georgia, July 7, 1857. His father, James Jossey, was born in Warren County, Georgia in 1820. For a short time he was engaged in a mercantile business in Macon, GA. He afterwards removed to Marion County, Georgia where he died in 1863. His wife Mary A Bowers, was born in South Carolina. She bore him 11 children, of whom the subject of this sketch is the eighth child. He was brought up and educated in Marion County. In 1878 he moved to Americus, and followed clerking until 1882, when he formed a partnership with Wm M Tullis, and engaged in the grocery business, which has grown steadily, and the firm is now one of the most prosperous and reliable in the city. Mr Jossey's success can only be attributed to his energy and close application to business, as he started life as a poor boy. In December 1886 he was chosen a member of the city council, which position he still holds. January 28, 1886 he was married to Miss Josie B Long, daughter of Patrick Long of Macon GA. The fruits of this union is one son, John B. Mr Jossey is a member of the Baptist Church.
