John Mayo appeared before open court March 1832, aged 74 years, to obtain a pension from his Revolutionary War Service.  He stated that he was born in Perquimans

County, NC in 1759, that was a record of his age made by his father, but he left it in NC.  He lived in Edgecomb Co NC when he was called into service.  That after the

war he moved to Sumter Dist SC ca 1798, then to Wilkinson Co GA ca 1811, then to Marion County GA, ca 1832.  He was drafted for three months of service under Col

Johnson, Col Hart.  The Company was raised in the defense of Charleston SC with the time spent scouting in pursuit of the Torries.  He was again drafted toward the close

of the war for three months and served under Capt Amerson to meet up with General Washington at York, Virginia.  By the time they arrived General Hawkins had

captured the British Army and their advance unnecessary.  Then they were under Col Johnson or Col Hart who gave him a discharge. He has known Samuel Brewer and

Isham Turner for twenty years.  He knows no one in Georgia who can testify to his service.

Statement dated 3 July 1833 says that he cant state any further details of his service due to old age and loss of memory.
