Married Nancy Hutchins, she was b ca 1812 in NC (one person says she was born 15 Oct 1811, Richmond, NC - no source) ; she died 24 Sept 1886, Terrell Co GA. Buried Chickasawatchee Cem. Marriage date ca 1832-1833 (she was the widow of James Spradley when she married Henry S Melton). She is listed as widow of James Spradley of Jefferson County, 1832 land lottery won land in Marion. She was a daughter of Simon Hutchins and unknown wife. Simon Hutchins was next door per the 1838 tax digest in Macon Co, and just four houses away in 1840 census in Macon County. Simon was also in 1820 census in Jefferson Co, 1810 Kinston, Lenoir Co NC: Simon Hutchings. 1800 census: Lenoir Co NC: Simon Hutchins. 1838 Macon Co Tax Digest Simon Hutchins had 303-3/4 acres Lot 44, Dist 1, Macon Co (next door to Henry Melton). In the 1850 Macon County GA census: Simon Hutchins, 72, farmer, $1000, NC and Mary, aged 50, NC (no other Hutchins in Macon Co). 1860 census: Militia Dist 814, Macon Co GA, Lanier Post office: 255-255 Mary Hutchens, 56, farmer, 300, 100 NC; Jane Schism, 25, SC; Kizam Schism, 23 (female), SC. In 1880 census - Nancy says her parents were b in NC. A death certificate for John M Milton (Thomas Mitson) says his parents were Henry S Milton and Nancy Hutchins; also the death cert for Henry Harrison Melton says his parents were Henry Melton and Nancy Hutchinson (sic).

W. and Elizabeth Florry Melton, born Sept. 8, 1864; died Jan. 4, 1885. Genealogical Abstracts From Reported Deaths The Nashville Christian
Advocate, 1885-1886) Also Emma Melvina b ca 1855 and Henry Monroe b ca 1860.

6.) Elbert M, b 31 March 1839, GA (probaby Macon or Marion Co), d 6 Jan 1863, VA. Civil War service: Co K, 12th Regmt, private June 15, 1861.
His Company was in Fredericksburgh VA Dec 13, 1862 then Front Royal VA 5 Jan 1863. He died Jan 6, 1862 of smallpox, Richmond Virginia,

Macon Co GA; 1880 census Terrell Co GA; husband as a widower is in 1900 census Lee Co GA. He died 26 Feb 1903. Buried Chickasawatchee Cem,
Terrell Co GA.
8.) George C., b 27 Feb 1844, GA (either Macon or Marion Co - pension says Marion Co), probably Macon or Marion Co., married Emma C Brown 24 Sept
1867, Randolph Co, GA. He died between 1910-1920 census, of Dougherty Co then. Civil War private May 1, 1862. In hospital July 2-Aug 1864.

discharged under age and disability July 8, 1861 (so he had to have been born after 1841). Appointed 1st Sergeant of Co H, 46th Regmt GA Inf. 4 Mar
1862. Discharged on disability July 1862. He was a witness for George E. Melton of Sumter Co on his pension app.
11) Thomas Mitson, (aka John M.) , born June 1849-1850, married Drucilla Hollingsworth, 8 July 1875, Fayette Co AL, died 15 June 1924, Shreveport, Caddo,
LA.1870 census Terrell Co GA, 1880 census Fayette Co AL, 1900 census Pollock, Grant Parish, Louisiana; wife (called widow) is in 1910 census in
Newport, Union Town, Jackson Co Arkansas living with her only son Samuel. No civil war service – too young. A death cert 15 June 1924, Shreveport,
Caddo, LA for a John M Milton MD, parents: Henry S Melton and Nancy Hutchins; who practiced in Pollock according to Directory of deceased American
Physicians. Attended medical school at Augusta GA, graduated 1877. Licensed in Louisiana 1895. Practiced at Pollock, LA 1912; Packton LA in 1914.
Medical
College of Georgia, Augusta, Class of 1877, he must be one of these men.

family member.
Appears that Henry was living with his father in the 1830 census.

1834: of Houston Co GA - he witnessed a deed between his father and the purchaser.
1834, 19 July: Applies for permanent letters of Adm on estate of James Spradley, Marion Co GA. (This appears to be because of his Hutchens/Hutchins connection.....A James Spradley married Nancy Hutchins, 10 Oct 1830, Jefferson County GA - I believe Henry S Melton married widow Nancy Hutchens Spradley) Source: Columbus Enquirer Newspaper, 1834. Marion County records from this time were burned.
1834: - 24th: McKinney Melton of County aforesaid (Jones?) to Stephen Beasley of Jasper Co. 202-1/2 acres. Lot #198, in 15th Dist Houston CoGA. Adjoining land of Clopton on the South, Brook on the East, and the Perry orphans on the North, Book F, page 349. Witnessed Henry S. Melton, Bryant S. Mangham and Lewis Powell J.P., recorded April 1835.

25 Sept 1852, Marion Co GA land records. S ½ of Lot 176 in 31st Dist originally Lee Co now Marion Co, promissory note for $42 signed by Henry, value to be received by 25 Dec, promissory note for $262 to be paid by 2 March by Matthew. Henry S. Melton sold to Matthew Melton. I have copy of this
