"Pineville is situated on the western border of Marion and is one of the oldest villages.  This small town has one large store, a blacksmith shop, a Masonic hall, a church, and a good school.  Capt James D Wilson, the owner of the store is doing a prosperous business.  Dr Lee Barnum and Dr T B Miller are the physicians in this section.  many wealthy planters lived in this district before the war, but with the passing of slavery, the farms were considerably reduced".
