1880-1890
"Putnam is prettily located on the Buena Vista and Ellaville railroad. This village has one large store, a post office, a depot building, a blacksmith shop and an excellent school. miss Minnie Merritt has charge of the school. Miss Minnie Merritt has charge of the school. Dr J R McMichael is the physician for that community. This part of the county is known as the Peach Orchard district and was formerly a part of the old Pan Handle section. Farmers are very prosperous in this vicinity and a great variety of choice fruit is raised here."
