Early Revolutionary War soldiers who settled in this area were George Buchannan, Jerry Burkhalter, John Burkhalter, Thomas Cockerel, John Edwards, William

Edwards, Reuben Jones, John Mayo, James Sanders, and Daniel Walker.  Mrs Catherine Hill, who settled in Marion,  was a widow of a revolutionary war soldier.

George Buchanan

Born 9 Sept 1759, served as Corporal and Sergeant in Capt Henry Hampton's Company, 6th Regmt, in SC under Lt Col William Henderson; enlisted

1777 in Col John Buchanan's Regmt; served at Siege of Savannah; prisoner 1789 on Sullivan Island, allowed pension 1833 at Marion County.  Buried

in family cemetery in what is now Schley Co GA.

John Mayo  (1759-1842)

Received $20 per year for having been a private in the Revolutionary War in August 1833.

Samuel Brady

 

1838 Land Draw; won land in Marion County: Dist 16; Section 3; Lot 233, and Dist 23, Section 2, lot 306; Revolutionary Soldier, lived Watson's Dist Cherokee
 Co GA at time of draw.
 
 

Job Jordan

 

Born ca 1740; died ca 1830, had son Abraham Jordan who died in Schley Co GA. 1838 Land Draw, Dist  25 ; Section 3 ; Lot 132, in Cherokee Co , Marion County.
