Morgan Kemp

Special Pardon 1865

Please send anything of interest to Trish Elliott-Kashima.

Some twenty years ago I had taken an oath to support the Constitution of the United States as Sheriff, Justice of the Peace of Marion County.  For this office I was not allowed to Register --- course I could not swear that I did not sympathize with my fellow men and relatives who were in the Rebel Army.  I do not know that the privilege of voting will do me much good as my days are nearly numbered.  I am nearly 60 years old but if I ever see a chance to do the US any good under the constitution which my Father fought to establish I would like to have the privilege of doing so.

Oath Sept 8, 1867.

(Noted: Answered negatively Nov 8, 1867.)
