Ida Shiver, 94

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Ida B. Shiver of Lakeland died of heart failure Friday (March 25, 2005) at Oakbridge Healthcare Center. She was 94.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on May 3, 1910, Mrs. Shiver came to Lakeland from there since the early 1930s. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Abundant Life Church of God.

Mrs. Shiver was preceded in death by her husband, Miles Herman Shiver. She is survived by her sons, Floyd Shiver, Lakeland, Robert "Bobby" Shiver, Wesley Chapel; daughters, Sadie Entrekin, Lakeland; Gladys Hess, Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel.

Herbert Tiner, 76

WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Herbert "Lewis" Tiner of Winter Haven died of cancer Wednesday (June 8, 2005) in Winter Haven. He was 76.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Jan. 21, 1929, he came to Haines City from there in 1931. He was a citrus dealer and grower for Bentley Brothers. He formerly worked for the family citrus business, J. H. Tiner and Son's Inc. He was a director with the Farm Bureau. He was a member of North Ridge Church.

Mr. Tiner is survived by his wife, Jo-Hilda Posey Tiner; son, Larry Tiner, Winter Haven; mother, Lucille Tiner, Haines City; brother, Roy Tiner, Winter Haven; two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 this evening at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 1001 Grace Ave., Haines City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City.

Fannie Kelly, 83

DADE CITY --
Mrs. Fannie "Maw Maw" Kelly of Dade City, formerly of Lakeland, died of lung failure Saturday (May 4, 2005) at home. She was 83.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on June 18, 1921, she lived in Lakeland before moving to Dade City. She was a retired sectionizer for Kraft Foods of Lakeland. She was a member of Dade City Pentecostal Church of God.

Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her husband, O. C. Kelly. She is survived by her sons, Kerry Kelly, Lake Mary Esther, John W. Kelly, and Doyle C. Kelly, both of Dade City; daughters, Evelyn Taylor, Lakeland, Eleanor Flowers, Pierson, Patricia Kelly, Dade City; brother, Edward Swearingain; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 this morning at Dade City Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in Dade City Cemetery.

HAINES CITY -- Mr. Ollie Douglas Hodges of Haines City died of heart failure Friday (March 4, 2005) in Bartow. He was 95.

Born Dec. 29, 1909, in Colquitt, Ga., he came here from Georgia 60 years ago. He was a truck driver for B. C. Cook & Sons, Haines City. He was a member of Shamrock Baptist Church, Haines City.

Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Hodges. He is survived by his daughter, Sally O'Quinn, Haines City; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shamrock Baptist Church, Haines City.

Idella Mercer, 94

PLANT CITY --
Mrs. Idella Ireland Mercer of Plant City died of natural causes associated with old age Friday (March 25, 2005) in Plant City. She was 94.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Jan. 2, 1911,
Mrs. Mercer came to Plant City from Pelham, Ga., in 1990. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Cotton Assembly of God.

Mrs. Mercer was preceded in death by her husbands, Harvey G. Ireland and Fowler Mercer. She is survived by her sons, Harvey G. Ireland Jr., Meigs, Ga., Robert N. Ireland, Lancaster, Pa.; daughters, Dorothy Lee Snow, Corine Watkins, Roxie Lee Stephens, all of Plant City; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Haught Funeral Home, Plant City. Services will follow at noon at the funeral home chapel.

Charlie Jones, 62

FROSTPROOF -- Mr. Charlie Jones of Frostproof died of heart disease Monday (Nov. 8, 2004) at home. He was 62.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on July 11, 1942, he came to Frostproof from Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1972. He was an auto detailer. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Frostproof.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jones. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Sanford, Frostproof; daughters, Theresa Williams, Frostproof, Dorothy Jones Pratter, Grand Rapids, Mich.; sons, Jimmy Jones, Timmy Jones, Floyd Jones, Charlie Jones Jr., Theodore Ford, and Chuckie Jones, all of Grand Rapids; sisters, Mary Blackery, Savannah, Ga., Catherine Maddox, Augusta, Ga., Shirley Lee, Sylvester, Ga., Ye Jdeshbazz, Los Angeles; brothers, Oscar Lewis, and John Lewis, both of Sylvester, Terry Jones, Thomas Jones, Floyd Jones Jr., all of Albany, Ga., Allen Jones, St. Petersburg; 43 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

PLANT CITY -- Mrs. Eunie Bell Chaney of Plant City died of heart and lung failure Monday (March 7, 2005) in Plant City. She was 94.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on April 2, 1910, she came to Plant City in 1950. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Chaney is survived by her sons, James Henry Chaney, Plant City, Edgar Lewis Chaney, Lakeland, Larry David Chaney, Douglas, Ga.; daughters, Opal O. Murphy, Mary June Chaney, Patricia Ann Simmons, all of Plant City, Betty Marie Adams, Douglas, Ga.; brother, Bryant Gill, Plant City; 40 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

LAKELAND -- Mrs. Mable Lee Cauley of Lakeland died of complications following a stroke Saturday (Oct. 23, 2004) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was 69.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., she came to Lakeland from Georgia 37 years ago. She was a certified nursing assistant. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Freewill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cauley is survived by her husband, Preston Croskey; stepdaughter, Jacquelin Williams, Wildwood; stepson, Terry Worlds, Lakeland; sisters, Dosha Mae Archie, Lakeland, Rosa M. Burke, Bainbridge, Ga., Adell Close, Newark, N.J., Annie Jackson, Rochester, N.J.; brothers, Johnel Lippitt, Tampa, Abraham Lippitt Jr., Bainbridge; two grandchildren.

Josie Carse, 65

HAINES CITY -- Mrs. Josie Wade Carse of Haines City died of cirrhosis of the liver Tuesday (Nov. 23, 2004) at home. She was 65.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Feb. 1, 1939, she came to Haines City from there 46 years ago. She worked for Evans Market in Haines City for 18 years. She was a coordinator of Carols in the Park in Lake Alfred. She was a school volunteer. She was a local missionary and missionary to France. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Lake Alfred where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Carse is survived by her daughter, Wanda Douglas, McMinnville, Tenn.; son, Jerris Wade, Haines City; brother, Woodrow Daniels, Plant City; mother, Mamie Daniels, Colquitt; five grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Baptist Temple of Dundee. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

James Kimbrel, 74

DAVENPORT -- Mr. James G. Kimbrel of Davenport died of cancer Friday (Dec. 10, 2004) in Winter Haven. He was 74.

Born March 22, 1930, in Colquitt, Ga., he came here from Colquitt in the 1940s. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a salesman for the truck industry and for Moore International, Davenport. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Kimbrel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mildred Carswell Kimbrel; son, Matthew Kimbrel, Davenport; daughter, Kathryn Webb, Winter Haven; brothers, William W. Kimbrel and Kenneth E. Kimbrel, both of Davenport; sisters, Vera Sanborn, Winter Haven, Vida Flick, Daytona Beach; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Haines City.

HAINES CITY -- Mrs. Earlene "Lynn" Gilbert of Haines City died of multiple organ failure Monday (April 18, 2005) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 75.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Oct. 8, 1929, she came to Haines City from there 48 years ago. She was a citrus worker. She was formerly a cook for the Polk County School Board. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of Jesus.

Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Gilbert Sr. She is survived by her sons, Jessie McIntyre, Lakeland, Johnny Gilbert Jr., Auburndale; daughters, Geanie Moore, Lakeland, Debra Phillips, Sandra Mills, both of Haines City; brother, Andrew Benton, Haines City; sisters, Vinelly Miller, Colquitt, Juanita Reeves, Seaville; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Claude Holmes Sr. Memorial Chapel, 601 Claude Holmes Sr. Ave., Haines City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark AME Church, 826 N. Eighth St., Haines City.

Mrs. Wilma Jean "Paine" Tubbs of Winter Haven died of heart disease Sunday (Oct. 17, 2004) at Winter Haven Hospital. She was 58.

Born in Colquitt, Ga., on Sept. 29, 1946, she came to Winter Haven at an early age. She was a caretaker in private homes. She was formerly employed at Holiday Inn.

Mrs. Tubbs is survived by her sons, Roy Lee Tubbs Jr., Orlando, Dwayne Tubbs, Randy Tubbs, both of Winter Haven; daughters, Jacqueline Tubbs, Mesquite, Texas, Teresa Tubbs, Winter Haven; mother, Beulah Burden, Haines City; brothers, Benjamin Burden, Rochester, N.Y., Jerry and Melvin Burden, both of Haines City, LaVuaghn Burden, Tampa; sisters, Gloria Burden, Linda Williams, and Patty, all of Haines City, Patty Burden, Kissimmee; seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Holmes Funeral Home, 601 Claude Holmes Sr. Ave., Haines City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Primitive Baptist Church, 2855 Orchid Drive, Haines City. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
