My James POTTER family was in Crawford Co. in the 1830 census. Two of his daughters married there: Mary to Brittain Rice WEBB and Sarah/Sallie toOran/Aran HICKS. Always looking for further info. Indications are that James POTTER was from NC. He was married to Margaret PARKER. After James died in DeKalb Co., AL, Margaret and most of her children (11 in all) moved on to Pontotoc Co. MS. B.R. WEBB became MS Secretary of State in 1850.
Will gladly share any info I have on these families.

An account of the life and Civil War service of Aaron LAND (1834-1901), written by his widow Angeline Polk "Angie" (LOKEY) LAND (1843-1930), lists the property he had owned prior to the war that was lost during the war. This list includes the following:

"...he owned a negro woman and one child (the negro woman's name was Lucinda, the child's name was Dempsy, it was a boy), which he paid fourteen hundred dollars in gold, or its equivalent, for. He bought her before the war; when he had owned her more than a year, she had another child."

No mention is made in the account of what became of this woman or her children. I am interested to learn any information on this slave family or their kin, and particularly to contact any descendants. Aaron and Angie resided in the Double Churches area of northern Muscogee County (now part of Columbus, Georgia) and were my great-great-grandparents. Thanks - John

The following obituary was sent to me by a cousin in Columbus, GA. The descendant apparently descends from Moses LAND of Harris Co, GA, who was probably brother to my ggg-gf Jacob LAND (1809 SC-1894 GA), although I do not have her exact line of descent. I am interested in contacting anyone kin to or researching this branch of the LAND family - thanks. jml

Maggie married an Ed GURLEY in about 1901 in Muscogee Co. (would LOVE to have this marriage record). They had a son, Frank Lindsey GURLEY, born in 1902.

Frank L. married Mae Belle NASH about Nov 1920 and they had 3 children before divorcing sometime before 1950 or so. This couple is listed in the 1930 census as living at 3177 8th Street, Columbus and appears in the 1942 Phone Directory as living at 1023 32d Street, Columbus.
