Obituaries of George Ashley Youngblood Obituaries of Sarah (Phillips) Youngblood

In memory of George A. Youngblood, who departed this life on November 13, 1929. He was born June 17, 1855, making his stay here on this earth seventy-four years. We feel as God has promised man, three score and ten, that this silver haired father, though not weary of life, was ready and waiting for his summons.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Youngblood, and was married to Miss Sallie Phillips on January 23, 1881.

Mr. Youngblood had lived practically all his life in this county and was well known and loved by all who knew him. He was a loyal citizen and a man who always ready to help his fellowman. He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Boiling Springs, in Treutlen County, for nearly fifty years.

The writer has had the pleasure of being in his home constantly since our childhood days and we can truthfully say he was always kind and courteous to everyone. His knowledge of various things made him indeed interesting to the young as well as the older ones. The young men of his neighborhood seemed always to enjoy his company. For years his faithful companion was an invalid and we know that he was thankful to be able to make her last days comfortable, she having preceded him only a few months ago.

The family, this deceased couple has left as expression of their lives only help to prove what devoted parents can do toward shaping the future of young people. We feel sure their counsel, advice and training will go on even in generations to come, and they will ever be thanking God for having blessed them with good and faithful parents who were always ready to show them the right way. We know the home is sad and there are times when they feel it is harder than they can bear, but God is always ready to comfort His sorrowing ones, and make their burdens lighter.

Mr. Youngblood was a man who had met sorrows all along through life's journey. The fact that he has experienced the sad periods as well as the happy ones no doubt helped to draw him nearer to God in his declining years.

The body was interred at Ebenezer cemetery. Rev. Willie Kitchen of Metter, GA., and Rev. K. H. MacGregor of Swainsboro, officiating at the funeral services. He leaves ten children: Mrs. J. E. Thompson, Misses Thelma and Jewel Youngblood, and Mrs. Joe Hall, all of this county; Mrs. Ed Page, of Laurens County; Mrs. R. B. Thompson of Folkston, GA; and Mrs. Andrew Becton, of Millen; Messrs. George, William and Ephriam Youngblood, all of this county.

In their deep sorrow they can still find it in their hearts to be thankful to God for having spared him for them to love and cherish all these years.

Mrs. Sallie Youngblood

-------------------------

(By Rev. W. H. Wilcox)

----------------------------

Mrs. Sallie Youngblood, wife of George A. Youngblood, was born January 10th, 1865, died May 16th, 1929.

Sister Youngblood was the daughter of Ephriam H. and Millie Phillips. She has been a member of Boiling Springs Missionary Baptist church for the last fifty years of her life. She was an invalid for twelve years. She was one of the most patient sufferers that I ever knew.

For four years, I served the Swainsboro Circuit charge as pastor. Ebenezer Methodist church was one of the churches that I served, Sister Youngblood lived within a few years of the church and it was my special privilege to call on her in her sick room almost every time I preached at Ebenezer church, which always gave me inspiration, and it seemed that I was always better prepared to preach after having talked with her and prayed with her. I believe that she was one of the sweetest and mot consecrated Christian women that it was ever my privilege to know.

Her husband, seven daughters and three sons, survive her, and many call her Mother Youngblood, because of her love and unselfish interest in their welfare. She as always in a happy mood and possessed the ability to make others happy. Her last years were years of benediction and joy to those who met her. Her cherry smile, her continued interest in things in life, her abiding faith and her unfailing kindness to everyone made life's eventide a golden hour. Although afflicted, her optimism was more pronounced with the years.

Her faith in God made her crossing the Bar' a happy homecoming for a true and faithful Child of God. Her children and friends can call her "Blessed".
