Minnie must have been a bright and well thought of young lady. It has already been noted that she was on the Kemp School honor roll. In "The [Swainsboro] Forest Blade", Thursday, May 8, 1908, her composition, "Value and Uses of Cotton Seed Products" was printed verbatim. Again, in the same newspaper for Thursday, June 4, 1908, her position on a school civil rights debate was printed verbatim. In announcing her death, "The Forest Blade" on Thursday, October 28, 1909, referred to her in the sub-headline as a "Sweet Young Girl" and went on to report that "the beautiful and talented young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Youngblood died after a short but aggravated attack of typhoid fever. She was an acceptionally [sic] bright young lady and her loss is a distinct and sorrowful one, not only to her parents, relatives and friends but to the community in which she lives [sic]." The inscription on her tombstone reads:
