Notes for ELLEN JANE DENNARD:
Ellen J. Dennard, I believe, was listed as Allen, son of Thomas Washington, in the 1870 census. I have come to this conclusion with the following evidence:
John Floyds obituary lists as a survivor Mrs. Ellen Ellington, a name of a sister I had not heard before.
In the book at the Conyers library, I found mentioned that Stephen Benjamin Ellington, b 3-16-1863 in Newton County, d 11-22-1900, buried in Ellington Cemetery was married on 9-10-1885 to Ellen Dennard. Unfortunately I dont think I wrote the title down but it had to do with widows and mothers of CSA soldiers receiving pensions etc. - it could be the book, A History of Rockdale County. I have page 667 listed.
In the 1900 census, Kanzada Dennard was a widow (of T. Washington Dennard) and head of a household.Living with her was Eugenia (their daughter who never married), Eliza Sparks, Kanzadas sister, and Ellen J. Ellington, daughter, born September, 1866 which is about the time that Allen in the 1870 census was born.
1870 Census - Newton Co. showed:
Thomas W. Dennard 50 M
Kanzada 44 F
Martha 26 F
James 21 M
Sanford 19 M
Mary 17 F
Melvina 13 F
Eugenia 10 F
Jefferson Davis 9 M
George W. 6 M
Allen 3 M
Charlie 1 M
1900 Census - Rockdale Co. Showed:
Dennard, Kazanda 70 F
Dennard, Eugenia 40 F Daughter
Sparks, Eliza 81 F Sister
Ellington, Ellen J. 33 F DaughterThese pieces of evidence lead me to believe that Allen was really Ellen.I think a little more 'digging' will turn up a marriage record on Stephen and Ellen.Perhaps a birth date and other connection will turn up as well.I will be checking the 1880 census records.

"Wound Results in Death
Charles Dennard's Life Lost by an Accident in His Office
Covington, Ga. - January 16 - (Special) - Charles Dennard died last night from the effects of a recent injury.A few days ago he accidentally knocked a pistol off his desk in the office of the Southern Bell Telephone Company, of which he was manager, and the weapon was discharged, the ball taking effect in Mr. Dennard's ankle. At first it was thought that his foot could be saved but later the doctors thought amputation necessary and the operation was performed Saturday afternoon, from the effects of which he never rallied. His remains were taken to Conyers this morning and laid to rest in the family burying grounds near there accompanied by an escort of the Royal Arcanum, of which he was a member. The beautiful and impressive ritual of that order was used at the internment."

Famiy records typed on a piece of paper inserted in the John Isaiah Dennard, Jr. Bible shows three children with no other record or evidence found for them:Doctor Charley Dennard, b. January 21, 1855; Tommas Dennard, born May 9, 1863; and Loney G. Dennard, born December 20, 1871. If these children do indeed belong to John Isaiah Dennard and Arminda Malinda Thrower, it would appear that they all died young.
Some records state that one of the children was called Pink, Pinkey, or Pinkney. Family members say this was Nancy Melvina.

Obituary, The Conyer Times, 1898
"Mrs. Jno. I. Dennard, Sr., died very suddenly at her home in Sheffield District last Tuesday, and was bruied at the Almond graveyard Wednesday.Mrs. Dennard was in her usual health and went to the woodyard and stooped to take some wood. She fell in the act and was carried in the house in an unconcious condition where she soon expired. She leaves a husband and many relatives and friends to morn her death."
She is buried next to John I. Dennard, Sr., her husband. There was at one time a stone (not a tombstone) to mark her grave. But, when I visited there in April, 1997, there was no marker for her. John I.'s first wife, Arminda was on the left, John was in the middle, and a spot on his right is where we think Rachel Elizabeth is buried. Carolyn Golowka, 4-22-1997.

Notes for SOPHRONIA ELIZABETH DENNARD:
Sophronia is listed in the Newton County Record Book - Marriage Records 1822-1903 as S. E. Donnard with her marriage to W. J. J. Gallaway on September 14, 1864.
On page 81 of that same book is listed the marriage of Columbus Hart to Sarah E. Galeway on July 14, 1868.
The 1870 census of Newton County, GA. shows:
Hart, Columbus 20 M Blacksmith
Hart, Sophronia E. 27 F Keeping House GA

I am confident that Sarah E. Galeway is really Sophronia Dennard Gallaway.
