A letter from Uncle Otis to Tom Ivey, a cousin:
"Atlanta, Feb. 14th.
Dear Tom,
Was very glad to hear from you. I will start off by saying for you to overlook the many mistakes I make in typing. I will be 87 in April and my typewriter is just about as old. I am in very good health other than age and I cant do anything about that.
MY FATHER, JOHN I DENNARD MARRIED ELIZABETH PLUNKETT, and she is SISTER LIZZIE to my Aunt Mattie.
MY GRAND FATHER MARRIED A. THROWER (my name is Otis Thrower). Marvin Thrower is my second cousin.
My GRANDFATHER HAD FIVE SONS, FLOYD, who had five wives, He buried four and the last one buried him. BEN, JUNE, JOHN (my father) and Alfonzo (half brother)
He had three daughters that I know of and I think Uncle Alfonzo had a sister, but I am not sure. Aunt ANNIE MC CORD, Aunt Pinky Norton (do not know her given name, but Rockdale County is full of Nortons. She had sixty five children, grand children, great grandchildren when she died. Aunt MATTIE Ivey, your Grandmother
I do not know who is the mother of Alfonzo. I know that my Grandfather and his two wives were buried in old cemetery below Conyers on the left side of the railroad a mile or two from Conyers. I tried to find their graves a few years back but I think the stones had been misplaced. They were just field stones when my father showed them to me many years ago.
Uncle June had Gertrude, Daisy, Lottie -- June & Gladis. I think he must have been married twice. (I am not sure) I know that June & Gladis were the youngest, and I did not know the older ones. I do not know how many children Uncle Ben and Uncle Floyd had. I know uncle Floyd had quit a few as I have run into some of the grandchildren a few times..
I think my father may have been born in Campbell County, but I know when he as a small fellow he lived near Yellow river, going out the road by East View Cemetery. He lived on this side of the river (Conyers). I tried to find the place a few years back but the road has been changed and I could not locate the site..
I had four brothers, Ernest, Reuben, (Me), Hewlett and Harold. Hewlett died when he was three year old. Ernest died twenty five years ago and his wife died the day I received your letter. She was 91.
Reuben died six years ago and his wife died last year. She was 92. Harold lives in Tampa Fla. and he might be able to give you information and I know he would be glad to hear from you. His address J. H. Dennard 4024 W. Alva, Tampa, 33614. He has one son, John and he is still living at home.
Ernest has seven children. Ralph, had three daughter and one son. One daughter lives out from Conyers but I do not know her married name. Ralph S wife also lives in Conyers. Elmer had four sons and a daughter. Elizabeth had a son & daughter. Dorothy has two sons and Raymond two daughter, Rudy has a son & daughter,
Reuben has one son and he lives in California. I do not have any children, but by my second marriage I have three children, then grandchildren and five great grandchildren
P.S. I have herd my Father us the the name HUMPHREYS in connection with his family. Possibly in connection with Alfonzo. (Also Bulah) Hope this may be of some use to you and please overlook the typing as I can half see with this light.
Aunt Annie McCord had one son. Jim and a daughter, Lilly, and I am under the impression that their were some more. (The name Humphreys may have been in connection with them.
Love, Otis (signature)
Uncle June's wife was Aunt Mollie. I know she was the mother of June & Gladis"

The Solid South, August 8, 1891
Surprised the Old Folks
Last Tuesday evening just a few minutes past 6 o'clock Mr. Luther Still was married to Miss Susie Almand, daughter of Elder John F. Almand, at the residence of Mr. J. M. Huff, Rev. John F. Wallis officiating. The parents of the young lady objected to the marriage, hence it occurred at Mr. Huff's. Miss Almand went for a horseback ride Tuesday evening and alighted at Mr. Huff's. Everything was ready in a few minutes and the groom elect was on the ground with the
license and preacher and the ceremony that made them one was soon performed. A note was attached to the horse telling the sad news and the animal was sent home to inform the family. The young couple repaired to the home of the groom's father to receive the congratulations of their many friends. THE SOLID SOUTH wishes that the young couple may always be just as happy as they are now and that nothing but prosperity may ever fall in their path.
