Generation No. 1

1. JOHN1 DENNARD was born 1799 in GA1, and died 1856 in Newton Co., GA. He married MARY ANN ALMAND July 21, 1819 in Elbert Co., GA, daughter of THOMAS ALMAND and NANCY DAVID. She was born August 12, 1803 in Petersburg, Dinwiddie, VA, and died Aft. 1870 in Newton Co., GA.

Notes for MARY ANN ALMAND:
There is a question as to Mary's birthdate. Some records have her the second child, others the third. Her sister, Martha, is sometimes given the earlier birthdate. In the 1850 census, Mary gave her age as 45; in the 1860 census her age is 56, and in the 1870 census her age is 67. Go figure!?!

Notes for SOPHRONIA E. DENNARD:
Sophronia is listed in the Newton County Record Book - Marriage Records 1822-1903 as S. E. Donnard with her marriage to W. J. J. Gallaway on September 14, 1864.

On page 81 of that same book is listed the marriage of Columbus Hart to Sarah E. Galeway on July 14, 1868.

The 1870 census of Newton County, GA. shows:

Hart, Columbus 20 M Blacksmith
" , Sophronia E. 27 F Keeping House GA
Denard, Mary A. 67 F At Home

I am confident that Sarah E. Galeway is really Sophronia Dennard Gallaway.
