Doug Lyle - 01/06/97 I am looking for any records of John and Elizabeth LYLE. They moved to Whitfield County where they died (c. 1850s) and were buried. They moved from Paulding County and they may have had a nephew, Charles B. LYLE who lived in Dalton.

Sharon Rogers - 03/10/97 I am seek the TUCKER family that raised Alford Adolpus PARRIS (Doc) around 1864-65. I know that it was the TUCKER's of Dalton, Whitfield County. His death certificate states he was born there but I think he was actually raised there. His parents died in 1864, Robert PARRIS and Lovina TUCKER-PARRIS of Gilmer County GA. I know lots about Dolpus as he was called later in his life. But little on his early years. He was the youngest of seven children. He was 3 years old when his parents died and all the children were separated to different families. Who raised Alford Adolphus PARRIS? Was it Lovina's parents? Any information would be helpful.

John G. Smith -04/07/97 Antne Gardner SMITH born 14 October 1838 in Alabama married Elizabeth FIRESTONE on 16 August 1860 in Polk County Tennessee. Antne died 14 November 1899 in Dalton, Whitfield County, Georgia. Antne's wife Elizabeth was still living at the time of his death. They had nine children; Samuel, Lola Ann, Bud, Nan, Rosie, Fannie, and three others. Anyone have any information on this SMITH family?

E. Helton -04/28/97 HELTON- I need information on my great grandfather Hilliard Green Helton. Married to Harriet E. Jackson. He sired three children Fain, Ernest, and Walt. He Died in the early 1900's. He resided in NW Georgia, (Ringgold, Catoosa County; Resaca, Whitfield County) . I have heard of a settlement of Helton's in Whitfield but do not know if Hilliard Green Helton came from there.

Jeff A. Wilbur - 05/12/97 I am attempting to locate information regarding ALFRED GREENBURG VANDIVER(E) (b. 8/2/1822, d. 12/28/1906), who resided in Whitfield Co. He was married to Margaret J. ??? (b. 9/11/1831, d. 4/2/1898). Any information concerning their parents and family lines would be greatly appreciated.

S. Morrow - 05/12/97 Looking for John Henry Cronan born about 1854. Married first to Ellen P. (?). They are listed in the 1900 Whitfield Census. Apparently, Ellen died around 1908; and he married Allie Arnold on 03/03/1908. She died and he married Allie Keys on 8/6/1916 in Whitfield Co. They later moved to CA. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Jimmie Sue - 05/19/97 My grandfather, James Fredrick SETLIFF was born in Dalton, Whitfield Co. GA. in Sept, 1886. His father John T. and mother Ophelia DOVER Setliff lived in Dalton, from about 1870, and they had a total of 6 children; Andrew b. Aug/1873, Charles H. b.Aug/1875, John Cleveland b. Mar./1880, James Fredrick, b. Sept/1886, Forrest b. Oct/1889, and one unknown dead by 1900. John T. is the son of Thomas P. SETLIFF and Margaret ?, listed on the 1860 Whitfield Co. Census and 1850 Murray Co. census. Thomas P. SETLIFF was in Co. B. Confederate Inf. Ga. Vol. in the Civil War. I am looking for information on any and all of these people. Avlyn Conley - 06/02/97 Would like any information on the parents of John Perry DODD, b. 15 May 1915, Whitfield Co., GA, and his siblings, Barnett S. DODD, and Gladdis/Gladys DODD, supposed to be the children of Barnett L. DODD and wife Hattie VEALE. The mother died when John Perry was very young and the father had the children placed for care (where?). There were all in different foster homes and no contact was made with each other until late in life when John Perry found his brother Barnett "Barney". No trace of Gladdis/Gladys. None of the above found on any census (per published indices) of Whitfiled Co. or of GA.

Robin Kendall - 06/23/97 Looking for the ancestors of Thomas Vinton CROW b. 1889 probably in N. GA, d. 24 Dec 1934 Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA. His parents were Alfred M. CROW b. 29 Jan 1841 d. before 1894 his first wife was Saleta Ann Francis Holcombe and his second wife was Laura Pope. Don't know where or when they were born. Fred Feldman - 07/07/97 I am looking for any information on Samuel May and Millie An Duncan, they were married in Whitfield County in 1854. It is my understanding that they lived on a Indian Reservation in the area for 10-15 years then moved to Bradley Co., TN. Samuel was also in the Calvary. They were both buried in Bryan Co., OK. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cheryl White - 07/07/97 CHASTAIN, Abraham M. Looking for death cert. for Abraham M. CHASTAIN. I'm having problems getting this. I knew that he was alive in 1923 so sent for a request to Atlanta to search for a death cert. They only search for a 3 year span I discovered, 1924-27. Then I got in contact with his granddaughter and she told me that he lived on Crownview St. in Dalton, died in Dalton and was buried at the West Hills Cem. in 1929. He was m. 1st to Susan Mealer and 2nd to Abby Reese. So I sent off again for a death cert. and they searched 1928-30 and still no luck. I then called the county court house, 2 funeral homes, the cemetery, the town office, and finally the historical society. The historical society said they would do a search for me and send me any info they had on him. I have not heard from them, not even to say they found nothing. I don't know if he has a tombstone or not and the man at the cem. said that if he doesn't they wouldn't have info on him, they didn't have info anyway. What should I do next? Does anyone have any info on Abraham M. CHASTAIN?

Jim J Gray - 07/21/97 "MAY" I am looking for information on William May and his parents. William May is my 3rd great grandfather. I received some old family papers that states that William May was born in Dalton, Georgia in 1823. He married a woman by the name of Barbry N. who was born in 1831 in Georgia (This is the only info I have on Barbry). I am assuming they stayed in this area up until they were married. Sometime before 1843 they migrated to Coffee County, Tennessee. There they had 6 children, Nathan Lafayette May, Elizabeth May, Ann May, John May, Nancy A. May, and Joseph May. Bud Rose - 08/25/97/ I am researching the PARSONS family. They are listed in the Dalton City Directory 1912-1913. CHARLES E. PARSONS and JAMES M. PARSONS were merchants at the Dalton Produce Co. They lived with REV. NEWTON A. PARSONS, his wife, ABBIE, and their daughter, MAURINE. Rev Newt is the son of HOLDEN RUSSELL PARSONS of Blount County TN and Bartow County GA. Rev. Newt was pastor at the Hamilton Street Methodist Church, Bethel Methodist, and Dawsonville Methodist Church.

Thomas was married in 1919 to Julia Mary UNDERWOOD born 24 Feb 1899 in Whitfield or Murray Co., GA. Julia's parents are James M. UNDERWOOD born 8 Dec 1863 in Whitefield Co., GA and Mary KAYLOR (KAHLOR) born 21 Feb 1868. I understand that John M. WHITE parent's are James M. WHITE born 1808 in GA and Caroline born 1818 in GA. I know that James M. UUNDERWOOD parent's are William J. UNDERWOOD born 1812 in SC and Jane BISHOP born 1821 in SC. I understand for the family that somewhere back in the 1800's there was another WHITE-UNDERWOOD marriage. It is my understanding that the UNDERWOOD family owned a large piece of land in this county that ran by the railroad track.

Bill Anderson - 09/08/97 Looking for the ancestors of Anthony (A.W.) Brown,b. 1835 + Arlean Dixon and lived in Catoosa and Whitfield Co. His son Robert Brown lived at Varnell and died at Varnell. His wife was Adaline and his children were Millard, b. 1892 and Annie, born 1894. Another son was Martin Luther Brown, b. 1879 . His wife was named Lizzie and his children were Audie,b.1900, Wallace, Stella and Exie. There may still be decendents living in the area. His daughter, Carrie was my grandmother. Barbara M. Jarvis - 09/08/97 In 1850 census my grandfather J. Solonia MACH was listed as 1 yr. old in Walker Co son of Henry and Martha Mack. In 1860 they were found in Whitfield Co. Since Whitfield was formed of part of Walker Co between census I'm assuming that they did not move just had the county change around them. Any information on these people would be greatly appreciated. I am more than willing to exchange info with anyone else searching MACK family.

Wanda Anderson - 09/22/97 Looking for the ancestors of A.W.(Anthony) BROWN and Arlean Dixon Brown. Two sons were Robert (Bob) BROWN and Martin Luther BROWN. I think they lived at Varnell. Madeline Brown - 10/20/97 I am looking for information on my grandfather, Samuel Howard Jarrett. Here is the information I have: Samuel Howard Jarrett was born abt. 2 Aug, 1892 at Varnell Station, Whitfield Co., GA. He died abt. 7 May 1937 in Canton, GA. He was the son of Matthew Jarrett. His mother's last name was "Sams". Samuel Howard Jarrett had 3 sisters: Della Jarrett, Lula Jarrett, and Gretchen Jarrett, and one brother, Columbus Jarrett. At some point he lived in Crandall, Murray Co., because that is where my mother, Edith Marie Jarrett was born in Jan 1924. I am told he played the fiddle and had won some sort of prize as champion fiddler. Any information on him would be greatly appreciated.

Beth H Sauceman - 12/01/97 CASSIDY -- The 1860 census of Whitfield Co., Tunnel Hill Dist., shows a widow Mariah Cassidy, age 45, born VA. There was also 8 year old Catherine, born GA in the h/h. By 1870 Mariah had moved into Catoosa Co., the Blackstock Dist.,. In addition to Catherine, there was shown a Sarah Frances, age 23, born KY. Need proof she was an older daughter, but where was she in 1860? Who was Mariah's husband? In 1879, Sarah Frances married William H. Sauceman, a widower from Whitfield Co. Any information on these families greatly appreciated.

Mary Murray - 12/08/97 Searching for information on the family of Barney J. Hubbard born 1825 who married Mary E, Calley/Colley they had 11 children. Barney was possibly born in Rome Georgia. He might have had a brother Lenard Franklin Hubbard who married Mary Barlett and their father might have been Robert Hubbard. Lenard and Mary are listed in the 1880 census in Etowah County Alabama with children. Place of birth for them was Rome, Ga.
