Reba Duncan - 12/23/02 SEARCHING FOR DEATH RECORD OF PRESTON HOPKINS B.1829, NC, WIFE NANCY HOPKINS. THEY WERE ON 1880 CENSUS "FINCHERS, WHITFIELD GA"1880. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO. I HAVE SEEN IT POSTED THAT HE DIED 1900, DALTON GA. CEMETERY ???

Steve West 11/08/02 I not sure where would be the best place to start, I have a great grand mother buried just out side of Dalton at Poplar Springs Baptist Church and I believe my great grand father is also buried there but not sure. My great grand mothers info is Nancy Lucenda (Southerland) West on her head stone it just says NL West wife of J N West, born apr 21 1851, died oct 27 1909. J N West is James N West.

L Ross Johnson - 11/18/02 I am looking for my greatparents who were in Whitfield Co. around 1864. My grandfather, William Sidney Johnson, was born October 13, 1864 in Whitfield Co. and left Georgia at an unknown young age. He ended up in Coryell and McClennan County Texas and worked as a machinist in the railroad shops and he was a Baptist pastor.

Chris Langheld - 10/28/02 I AM LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION ON A JULIUS LANGHELD WHO MARRIED A WOMAN NAMED EMILIE JESCHKE. MARRIAGE RECORDS INDICATE THEY WERE MARRIED APRIL 18 1852 IN WHITFIELD CO. GA. I NEED INFORMATION ON EITHER OR BOTH FAMILIES. JULIUS WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT 30 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME, A NATIVE OF GERMANY, SAID TO HAVE ARRIVED IN NEW ORLEANS IN 1850.

Walter Beverly - 10/14/02 My grandfather, John Pernal Beverly, died in Catoosa, Co. In 1884 and is supposed to be buried at Tunnel Hill. His will, I am told is on file at Ringold. I have visited Tunnel Hill and Ringold and was unable to locate a burial site. W. H. Foster was administrator of his estate. My father who was there said he was buried at Tunnel Hill. There is a sister-in-law & brother-in-law and some neices and nephews in the Foster Cemetary in Tunnel Hill. Is there any one who might have some idea of where the records were kept? Would appreciate any and all help. The Names of the relatives were Keyes. I have newspaper clipping of them on their 60th. ann.

Connie Wright - 10/07/02 I am looking for anyone who can do an obit lookup for a Ralph Harold Futrell who was born Sept 3, 1924 and died May 13, 2001 in Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA. My friend has been looking for his birth father for years, I do wa asked to try to find out about him and I do believe this is the father we are looking for. This would bring some closure to my friend if we can find an obit from a newspaper.

J. Bishop - 09/02/02 According to my gg grandmother's death certificate she was born 3 Jan 1851, Dalton, GA, died1 July 1931, Spring City, Rhea Co, TN. Her name was Tuler (Collins) Reid. Only the 1900 Rhea Co, TN Census carries the name Tuler. All other records lists her as "Lou". Her parents (from her death certificate) are Dalphus Collins born SC and Jane Watson b. SC. Her husband was Robert H. Reid b. 18 Oct 1850, NC. They were married abt 1874. All of their children were born in NC. This couple moved to NC to Rhea Co, TN, after 1891 but before 1900. I am searching for Collins family or info in Whitfield Co.

Tally Feb. 9, 1868; Alexander S. Talley b. July 27, 1848 in Whitfield Co., GE; Charlotte Virginia May Noblett b. 1850 Dalton, GA (twin to Harriet); Eldridge Wm. A. Noblett b. Dalton, GA; Priscilla Worthy, wife of Eldridge; Thomas J. Noblett. In the 1860 Census Whitfield Co., Census, it lists a William Talley, age 45, Eliza age 20, John W. age 17, Mary A. age 14, Alexander S. age 12, Georgia A. age 10, Sarah E. age 8, and George J. age 4. This same family is listed in the 1850 Murray Co. GA census.

R. E. Olesen - 08/12/02 I am trying to locate two John Phillips from Whitfield or Murray County GA. I believe both may have been in the Civil War. Young JOHN PHILLIPS would have been a teenager when he joined. I would like to know what his MIDDLE INITIAL and his REGIMENT AND COMPANY. I would also like to know the same information on his father John Phillips and I think he was married to Margaret May. The only thing I know about them is they lived in Murray County in 1866 and young John married Malvina VanHorn in Whitfield County.

Also John Clarke and Eliza Louise Autry Young - ch: Mollie, Robert B., John Perry, James T., Carrie, Rosetta, Jennie, Sallie, Mack Cleveland. Know that their daughter Carrie married Thomas E. Cleary in the 1890's and they were living in Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA in 1930. T. E. and Carrie Young Clary had known ch: John P., Millicient Lucreita, Louiza Jane, Charles H;, Robert, William, James W., Joseph G., Bertie Mae and Lilly Maude. Thomas and John Clarke Young were brothers who married sisters and moved to Murray and Whitfield County before 1880. Any help on this family would be most appreciated. John Clarke Young was my husband's gr-grandfather.

Jean Martin - 07/22/02 I have been searching for years for parents and/or siblings of my great great grandfather, William Henry Harrison "Cap" Villyard. My first record of him is in the 1860 Census, Whitfield County, Trickum District as Henry Vilyiard, an 18 yrs old farm laborer with William Henderson, farmer. After serving in Co. B 8th GA infantry, he married Amanda Elizabeth Tipton on 5 Dec 1865 in Catoosa, Walker, GA. I have good documentation for the family from that poiint on. If anyone "out there" has any clues to finding this man or his family prior to 1860, I will be forever indebted.

Shiela Mikel Cordray - 07/15/02 I am looking for the Mikel/ Coleman families of Whitfield County. My Grandfather Frank John Mikel was born in Whitfield county on May 21, 1903(subject to verification line on US Social Security Application for account number - the year only) His parents were namedd Elbert Lewis Mikel and Lillie (Coleman) Mikel. Elbert was known to go by the name of Lewis, and in fact on Lillie's gravestone, as she passed away in 1908 wrote: "Lillie wife of L.E. Mikel died February 21, 1908, age 35 years." This places Lillie Coleman born on or about 1873.(information copied from family photo of the gravestone.) Frank's other siblings were William, Minnie and Fred Mikel, all older than Frank, and were Lillie's children. After Lillie passed away Elbert Lewis remarried to Lorrie Kerney (spelling unconfirmed) who gave birth to twins. The twins died at birth(twins names unknown), I am uncertain why the marriage ended if by divorce or death. Then came a third wife, name unknown to me, she born Charlie Veste and Milt Mikel. I am uncertain why their marriage ended as well, but Lewis then married Lizee (last name unknown) and gave birth to Ines, Leonard(LC), Lilly and Jean. Elbert Lewis had a brother named Marvin Lewis, and believed to have had a brother named Andrew as well as other siblings. I am hoping with so many children someone will remember this family. I am looking for Lillie Coleman's parents and siblings, as well as Elbert Lewis Mikel's parents and siblings.

Sue Ratcliff - 03/25/02 I am researching John C. Crutchfield, born July 29, 1822 near Spring Place, Whitfield Co., Ga. His parents were Joseph Crutchfield and Chinossa Halfbreed. Would there be any birth records available? Around 1840 he married a Mary Ella Ladd possibly from N. Carolina. Their first son was born in Missouri. They moved on to Texas and settled in Collin Co. Am interested in any records available. Joseph Crutchfield's parents were Joseph Crutchfield and Gu u li si who was a fullblood Cherokee. Where did Joseph come from and when?

I was born in my grandfather's house in Waring in Whitfield County on May 27, 1913. I know that my grandfather Bearden served in the Civil War and later operated a general store in the Waring area. My mother, Alma Prudence Bearden Farmer, was born in June 10, 1896. I am most interested in information on Daniel Jefferson Bearden. Where was he born? Where did his family come from? Patricia J Treadwell - 01/28/02 I am looking for information on Adaline E. Ford. She was listed in the 1880 Whitfield Co Census with son Samuel 15, Felix Willson 34 (son in law) and daughter Hasseltine Willson 30. It is possible that she may be Adaline Eliza (Eliza Adaline) Johnston who was born in Bradley County, TN and married A. W. Ford. The 1860 census index for Whitfield County lists Amos Ford on p. 697. Does anyone have access to that census and could tell me who was in the household with him? Also 1870 Census? Are there cemetery books available from Whitfield County which might show where and when they were buried.
