5 September 1782 deed proved for Micajah Teawell's emanciaption of Peter Hacket.

Know all men by these presents that I Henry Lipscombe of the County of Cumberland and State of Virginia Do hereby in consideration of faithful services manumit and forever set free the following negroes who were before the sealing of these presents my slaves to wit. Becky a woman about the age of thirty four years, John about the age of fourteen years, Billy about the age of twelve years, Nancy about the age of eleven years, Claibourne about the age of ten years, Kitty about the age of seven years, Polly about the age of four years, and Judith about the age of two years and by this my Deed of emancipation I do as fair as by Law I can bestow on the aforesaid negroes and each of them all the rights priveliges liberties & immunities of free persons. In testimony whereof I have signed & seald these presence this twenty fifth day of May one thousand eight hundred and one.

Henry was apparently the father of Becky's children. He named them in his will:

This Deed of emancipation from Henry Lipscombe to Becky and others was acknowledged and ordered to be recorded

Item I give to Nancy, a free woman of colour called Nancy Lipscomb one hundred and fifty acres of lands lying at the lower end of my tract on Appomattox River known by the name of Moody= s old tract (the land here given lying on the Powhatan side) also four Negro slaves named Gilbert, Nancy, Abner and Lucy all of which said land & negroes I give to the said Nancy & to her heirs forever.

Item I give to Kitty, a free woman of colour called Kitty Lipscomb the piece of land on which she now lives containing forty four & a 1/4 acres (being a part of Burton= s old tract) also about twenty acres to be taken off of Moody= s old tract lying adjoining the said 44-1/4 acres, this to begin at the mouth of the ditch called the River ditch & run to a red oak & maple on the ditch between Ben Hatcher= s land and Moody= s old tract (the sd oak standing on Moody= s old tract and the maple on the opposite side of said ditch on Ben Hatcher= s side) also two Negro slaves, named Hall and Charles all of which said land and negroes I give to the said Kitty and to her heirs forever.

Item I give to Billy, a free man of colour called Billy Lipscomb one-half of the balance of Moody= s old tract not before given also eight negro slaves, named Tom, George, Amy, Aby, Betsey, Paton, Lizy and Susan all of which said land and negroes I give to the said Billy and to his heirs forever ...

Item I give to Sally, a free woman of colour called Sally Lipscomb the remaining half of the balance of Moody= s old tract not before given also two negro slaves named Judy and Mary all of which said land and negroes I give to the said Sally and to her heirs forever ...

Item I give to Polly a free woman of colour called Polly Lipscomb one negro slave named Matilda which said negro I give to the said Polly & to her heirs forever ...

Item I give to Judy, a free woman of colour called Judy Lipscomb forty-four & 1/4 acres of land which I lately purchased of Robert Henderson to whose deed to me reference is now made for a more particular description of said land / also seven negro slaves named Hanabal, Billy, Will [?], Charity, Patrick, Daniel, and Caesar. Also eighteen hundred dollars due from Robert Henderson to me in three equal annual payments that is on the twentyeth Dec 1827, 1828 1829 as per said Henderson's bond all of which said land negroes & money I give to the said Judy & to her heirs forever ...

Item I give to Frank, a free boy of colour (son of Judy before named) two negroes named Anarchy and Albert which said negroes I give to the said Frank forever ...

Item I give to James, a free boy of colour (son of Nancy before named) one Negro named Armistead which said negro I give to the sd James forever ...

Item I give to Judy (before named) all my stock of every description, plantation utensils, household and kitchen furniture which I have now on the place called Ford= s old tavern [?] (which place I have lately sold to Robert Henderson) all of which I give to the said Judy forever ...

Item I give to Billy, Nancy, & Sally (all before named) all my stock of every description now on the land the said Billy lives on (Moody= s old tract) to be equally divided amongst the said Billy, Nancy, & Sally all of which I give to them forever ...

Item I give to Billy (before named) all my plantation tools household and kitchen furniture which is now on the plantation on which the said Billy lives (Moody= s old tract) all of which I give to the sd Billy forever ...

Item my will and desire is that the land and negroes belonging to the plantation called Moody= s old tract on which Billy (before named) and herein called Billy Lipscomb) now lives shall remain together undivided at least one year from and after the close of the present year for the purpose of making a crop which crop when made to go to the payment of the debts against me and those debts against the before named Billy called Billy Lipscomb so that the whole of the debts now standing due from either myself or the said Billy shall be paid before the division of said property...

Lastly I constitute and appoint my friend Hezekiah Ford my whole and sole Executor to this my last will and testament ratifying & confirming the same and I desire that my Executor may not be held to security for the performance of his duty as I have full and complete confidence that he will do strict justice according to the tenor of this my last will and testament In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of September 1825. proved 26 September 1825.
