James Mann emancipated his daughter Sukey by deed [Register of Free Negroes 1810-43, 36, no.91].

Orders 1797-99, p.79, 22 August 1797, On motion of John Livingston a Mulatto man in the possession of Humphrey B. Brooke and William Andrews, administrators of Muscoe Livingston, deceased, for leave to sue in forma pauperis in order to obtain his freedom. James Webb is assigned as counsel for that purpose.

p.299, It appearing that Lewis Jones a Negro fellow and to be the bearer hereof is free and ought to be suffered to go at large.

p.326, 24 May 1798, On the motion of Martiller, Phillis, John, Nancy & Tom & Martiller Bowing, Nancy McGiven, William McGiven, Colston McGiven, Annett McGiven, Patrick McGiven, Phillis Richards, Thomas Richards, Dinah Richards, Henry Richards, Peter Richards, Descendants of the said Martilla, Phillis & Nancy who are in the possession of Henry B. Brooks & William Andrews, administrators of Muscoe Livingston, deceased, stating that the said Martilla, Phillis John, Nancy & Tom came into this Country in the year 1783 and that they are therefore free by the Laws of Virginia. Summons issue. Jury ... plaintiffs are entitled to their freedom ... accordingly freed.
